Reduction is this process of removing lithic material from a core. 2 ways to reduce a core by applying force. Percussion you go from 0 force to maximum force. Anatomy of the core: the core has a weathered outer surface that is not cryptocrystalline, it is rough, this is called the cortex. The flake has a spot on it, the striking plat form, this is the place on the core where force is applied to detach a flake. 2 strategies to tool production: core => tool, core is used to create tool, core => flake => tool, flakes that are detached from a core are made into a tool.
