Colonies had experience in governing themselves, they had legislative. The assemblies passed laws and regulations on themselves. Bodies were colonists elected to represent (delegation, democracy) Could write their own constitutions/governing documents: disadvantages. Colonies were all about gaining things ad shipping them back. No independent military force- would eventually develop state militias. Essentially free riding off of britain in terms of military protection. Colonies had little experience working together to accomplish anything and communicating (would be problematic when revolution starts: colonists generally liked this system bc of autonomy, french indian war (7 years" war) btw france and great britain- 1754-1763. The home rule system: british system of giving the colonies lots of space/latitude in governing themselves in day to day issues, because the communication time was so long. It then tries to impose new taxes on the colonies in order to try to replenish funds. Parliament began to meddle in colonies" affairs.
