Discrimination and prejudice is rooted in religious and ethnic cleansing practices: why does it take place, often a way for those in power to maintain a higher social status than those that they discriminate against. In sport: discriminatory practices, written and unwritten agreements, and moral ignorance allowed for white males to dominate and prevent other races from significant achievements in the field, case study: olympic sport. Jesse owens competed in the 1936 berlin olympic games as an african american competitor. He ended up with 4 gold medals due to his athleticism while destroying the myth of an aryan race that was more intelligent and/or successful than other races. An impact of integration was that many all-black schools were closed and african american coaches lost their jobs. In 1947, the brooklyn dodgers accepted the first black player, jackie robinson, into what had been historically an all white league.
