Introduction to ergogenic aids in sport: competition is an important component of our market-driven, capitalistic society. As a result, sport has been highly influenced by this idea of success. A disproportionate amount of emphasis on the outcome or non-moral values of winning, no matter what, has occurred in the sport industry. As a result, athletes may take drugs or performance supplements to gain unfair advantages over their opponents: as discussed in drugs and cheating: part i, there are many reasons why athletes may consider using performance-enhancing drugs (peds). However, there are additional effects throughout an athlete"s career such as being placed under continued pressure to maintain the performance standard they have set for themselves. At the end of an athlete"s career there are long-term side effects. These include, but are not limited to: stimulants, depressants, anabolic steroids, human growth hormone, blood doping, beta-blockers, stimulants and uppers, stimulants affect the central nervous system.
