Cuban governor rejected his idea, but he still sailed. Picked up priests who knew the mayan language. The aztec people thought of cortes as a god, so they allowed him into their villages. He went in & massacred the aztec people and burned down the city. Montezuma, the ruler of the aztecs allowed cortez.
