GEOL 1120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 30: Radiant Flux, Heat Flux, Organofluorine Chemistry

26 views3 pages

Document Summary

This lab will build on earlier labs to explore the concept of climate and, to a lesser degree, weather. Climate of a planet is determined by a host of factors. Solar flux (cid:523)or a planet"s distance from a star), albedo, and atmospheric content of greenhouse gasses are 3 major factors when determining its general, global climate. The difference between weather and climate is a measure of time. Weather is what conditions of the atmosphere are over a short period, and climate is how the atmosphere behaves over relatively long periods of time, typically described as the average weather across 30 years. Solar flux: as covered in lab 2, solar flux decreases with distance. A physical way to think of this is to consider hikers around a campfire. Hikers close to the fire will feel more heat from the open flame than campers further away.
