GEOG 1103 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Commodity Fetishism, Wage Labour, Antithesis
Document Summary
Refers to consumers, product, market and producers. Consumers, money, labor, supply and demand all have to do with capitalism. Bourgeoisie are in control of the means of production (factories, tools, infrastructure) The bourgeoisie and the proletariat both need each other, but they both don"t have equal say in the decisions being made. The bourgeoise need to exert power of the proletariat in order to force them to continue to working. We have to have a faith in money this is because it seems so natural. The economy reproducing itself relies on supply and demand. Capital can"t have borders, but need borders. For example in order for the producers to make money, their workers must produce more in an hour than they are getting paid, but this can lead to extortion. We need cheap labor, but what are the ethics behind this. We need labor laws and trade agreements.
