Power: a form of authority to get what you want, all different ways people maintain control over population/territory, military, how we"re taught to act, how we do act. Politics: negotiations of power, laws, rules, lobbying, debating, funding, collecting taxes. Place (makes it geography: the way people put meaning in places, the way people make & contest places in relation to power. State (not just a definition, but also various aspects of state power/control) State an independent political unit with recognized boundaries, although some of these boundaries may be in dispute(can i say that a state is a country?) no, it"s not a single place defined by borders. The state is more than a place or the government ; it is a complex set of institutions and practices that influence every aspect of our lives. The state is both a force and an ideology; it works through both formal regulation but also citizen consent.
