Sociological study that examined white preferences for ideal neighborhoods. Testing both the effects of racial composition and the variables for which race may serve as a proxy. Value of house relative to others in the neighborhood. Critique: the people being surveyed don"t want to admit that they are racist and don"t want to live in a neighborhood with african americans. According to data, whites feel most comfortable when it comes to buying a home if their neighborhood composition is less than 10% black. Low probability of whites moving to neighborhoods with anything but a token black population even after controlling for the reasons they typically give for residing with african americans. Blacks are more likely to be victims of crimes. Showing whites are just afraid of blacks. Whites are resentful of black progress, civil rights enforcement, and affirmative action. Whites want to have a harsher punishment for these crimes.
