Understand the lives of others better: social structures are the institutions and arrangements that impact how people behave, troubles/issues. Issues- societal: the sociological imagination is the ability to imagine how social structures impact other people and change their lives. Scientific method: a scientific theory is a substantiated explanation for a phenomenon. Its based on facts and evidence, and confirmed through testing an experiments: theories (cid:272)a(cid:374) (cid:271)e (cid:449)ro(cid:374)g, or i(cid:374)(cid:272)o(cid:373)plete. But the(cid:455)"re the (cid:271)est e(cid:454)pla(cid:374)atio(cid:374)s (cid:449)e ha(cid:448)e: a deductive approach to research: Analyzes the data collected through observation to confirm, reject, or modify the original theory: an inductive approach to research: Determines if a correlation exists by noticing if a change is observed in two things simultaneously: research methods are standard rules that social scientists follow when trying to establish a causal relationship between social elements. Quantitative methods: look at information in numeric form. Qualitative methods: look at information that cannot be readily converted to numeric form.
