Need to reintegration to break the society that is why we ate (cid:494)tough(cid:495) on drugs. Drug offenders: treatments vary, chemical, methadone, etc. Chemical detox: 1-3 week process, intense, expensive, so harder to implement. Methadone maintenance: help prevent withdrawal symptoms. Outpatient treatments: assessing, planning, linking, hard to see how effective. Self help group: can bring in volunteers who have issues, cheap. Residental therapeitc communities: primary goal to change behavior, thinking, medium to high risk, some have to volunteer for it, limited amount, manatee and palm beach different volunteer and support staff. Women offenders: crimes they commit are done in a different way, more are entering the system, create sensationalism, average age 30, usually victimization involved with their offending. Demographic: school is comparable to men, have a lot of past trauma/medical issues, 61% lived with children before confinement so where do we put the, girl scout behind bars children. Pregnancy in prison: many have high risk pregnancies.
