Week 11: history of the us health care system, evolved based on principles to those of the foundation of the nation. Individual liberties: responsibilities, free market, health care is more expensive in the us than anywhere else, because of the foundations it built on, made up of, clinicians who practice, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, managed care corporations, other agencies. Insurance can no longer penalize people: annual maximums they would have to pay lifetime caps by insurances are not allowed. Parents can insured children till 26: profits of insurance companies are caped. Issues: often not affordable without subsides, competition frequently lacking, medicaid not expanded everywhere. Insurer"s losses not covered: health care and research, relationship between cost, quality, access to care, need a balance to all these three, most significant barriers to access in this country are, lack of health insurance, workforce issues.
