Document Summary
Water supply and distribution as we know it began in the early 1900"s. This was done by bringing clean water to individual buildings by connecting buildings to a water. It began in major cities across the u. s. supply pipe. Aqueducts, canals and dams began being built in the early 1900"s in order to bring clean water to where they were needed for various purposes. Rural areas finally got clean water distribution around the 1930"s. Systems using water supply obtain water from aquifers, classified as groundwater, water from lakes and rivers, and also the ocean through the process of desalination. Desalination is the process of taking out minerals from water that is considered saline. Methods that are used to transmit water include water pipelines, pumping stations, and water meters from the treatment plant to the distribution place. Also hydrants and service lines off the side of the highway. The u. s. uses water meters to measure water usage.
