The evaluation of beauty is closely related to changing social and economic circumstances. In the modern period, the degree to which we evaluate beauty has changed because of the industrial revolution. Increased mobility led to a wider sense of form and beauty outside of small towns. Culture has become more homogenized as we have become more interconnected as a society and as a world. Holds high value when it is widely recognized, when in the eyes of all beholders. Beauty is a social construct in time and space. However, the dominant definition has been those of western standards in the modern age. Ideas of beauty standards used to market men and women"s fashion, fragrances, skin, and hair products. It is a billion industry, yearly, worldwide. It is the third most profitable after pharmaceuticals and software.
