Organized crime existed before and after prohibition, but it made a dent in consumption. Research of youths shows that reducing risk factors and increasing protective factors reducing rates of substance use. Impacts: school, social life, work, driving high, pregnancy- alter baby responses, lead to problems in school, medication, behavioral treatments are promising, treat(cid:373)e(cid:374)ts are(cid:374)"t really su(cid:272)(cid:272)essful, no medications available to treat abuse. Two active chemicals: cannabidiol (cbd)- impacts on brain w/o the high, tetrahydrocannabinol (thc)- pain-relieving qualities. Benefits: reverse carcinogenic effects of smoking tobacco products.
