Social psychology-how we think about, influence, and relate to each other (situation, not the person) Attribution theory- explain someone"s behavior by crediting either the situation or the person"s disposition. Fundamental attribution error-when you underestimate the impact of a situation and overestimate personal disposition. Some effects of attribution are personal, political, and employment. Attitudes- feelings that are influenced by our beliefs, that predispose our reactions to objects, people, and events. Central route to persuasion-focus on arguments and respond w/ favorable thoughts. Peripheral route to persuasion- influenced by incidental cues e. g. like how attractive the speaker is. Foot in the door phenomenon- the tendency for people who have first agreed to a small request to comply later with a larger request. Role set of expectation (norms) about social position (e. g. women staying in the house and cleaning, cooking, etc. ) When attitudes are opposed/gone against, we experience tension. Chameleon effect- mimic the behaviors, dress, feelings and language of those around us.
