Spinal cord = responsible for reflexes (cid:272)alled (cid:862)ju(cid:374)ior e(cid:454)e(cid:272)uti(cid:448)e(cid:863: gets pns info to the brain. ** fight or flight, increased heart rate, etc. Somatic: sensory input, motor input, voluntary muscle movement. Autonomic: involuntary functions of organs: sympathetic = emergencies, parasympathetic. Responsible for relaying body signals to cns. Axons: transmit info: axon terminals: send info. At rest, neuron is polarized and has a resting potential (charge is more negative inside w/ respect to outside) Impulse from another neuron membrane breakdown na+ rushes in resulting in charge of energy moving down axon. Synapse: small space b/w neurons; where signal has to pass to get from axon terminal to dendrite. Neurotransmitters: chemicals that transmit energy from 1 neuron to the next, located in axon terminal & packaged in synaptic vesicles. Synaptic vesicles get swept up by wave of electrochemical energy & the neurotransmitters inside leak into the synapse & attach to the next dendrites dendrite receptor sites.
