Schemas help us decipher what to pay attention to, what to direct attention and cog our world. Pay less attention to/ignore info that goes against bias. Ingroup - group an individual identifies with, perceive you are a part of. If ingroup is women, creates outgroup of men. Who i am, how i relate to the world = social identity. When group succeeds, you succeed/when group is threatened, you feel threatened. Even when people are arbitrary grouped, people have a sense of belonging. When people get randomly assigned square, triangle, etc. they get excited that group, even for no reason. Tend to be more generous to share resources with them. Tend to emphasize positive features of that group, shoo away negative features. Far more likely to be forgiving of flaws of person in ingroup because associate successes/transgressions with our own.
