Does not matter who leader is, they will all respond to crisis in the same way because of survival and anarchy. Realists don"t think leaders need to take public opinion into consideration because they already represent the best interest of the state: ex: belief that democratic leaders will be more diplomatic, but look at. Wilson, roosevelt, truman, kennedy/johnson, bush all in power when war started. Democrats actually believe as realists would expect: ex: obama in syria and iraq, does it for survival of state. Diversionary theory: leaders use force to divert attention away from domestic turmoil, like internal conflict, scandal, and economic woes: external distraction to not get ppl to think about war. Disputed territory off coast of argentina (called malvinas by argentinians) captured by gb during wwi. Ruled by military junta, which was very unpopular, so it decided to gain support by fighting and winning back malvinas: aka dirty war w desaparecidos.
