Preload = elasticity of ventricles as they fill. Afterload = resistance the ventricles have to pump against. Listen to heart sounds - weird changes in heart sounds. Feel peripheral pulses - on arms and legs all the way down, and into feet - will have diminished pulses the further away from the heart that you get - makes sense because of the decreased. Cardiac consequences - chf (right or left), going into shock. Cardiomyopathies: right failure - right ventricle failure, left failure - left sided ventricular dysfunction, hf causes, impaired cardiac function, mi, myocarditis. Systemic htn - can put you at risk for hf; it"s what"s going on with the heart. Coarctation of the aorta - narrowing of the aorta; body is not getting enough oxygenated blood so heart compensates and goes crazy beating and puts it at excessive work. Rubber band snap - the emptying of the ventricle, the snap of the ventricle.
