Cervical injury - loss of breathing, no airway protection; need to have airway inserted. As you move down, the level of injury determines the level of paralysis. Brainstem herniates - brainstem pushes down; causes brain death; only kept alive by machines from this point. Left sided stroke - right side wont work depending on where the infarct is. Dermatome - have to test each of 31 dermatomes if you have a spinal patient. Fast - face, arms, speech, time: hemorrhage, subjective data, history of present health concerns - headache, seizures, dizziness (dizzy problems getting up out of. Ruptured aneurysm - artery in surface of brain becomes weak. Alcohol and drugs - can lead to dementia. Diet - folic acid deficiency, vitamin b12 deficiency.
