1174 - as punishment for boston tea party, passed the coercive acts. Closed ports of boston - no ships can go out (merchants can"t make money), only british military ships can come in. Catalyst for 13 colonies to come together. Pa sent wagon loads of wheat to make bread. Took a lot of power away from the massachusetts government - royal government took. Essentially allowed all french canadians to stay catholic post 7 years war. French were allowed to settle in the ohio valley. Angered colonists since they were not allowed to settle there. 12 of 13 colonies came together may 1774 (georgia was not able to meet there at the time, was facing indian wars and worried about slave rebellions) Make decision to ask british to repeal intolerable acts - by december 1774 if not all trade with them will cease. Will reconvieng in may 1775 to decide what the next step will be.
