Document Summary

Crime control model: primary goal of the criminal justice system should be to reduce crime. The more an individual believes they will get caught, the less likely they are to commit a crime: swiftness of punishment: the system should be streamline and effective. There shouldn"t be multiple court hearings and appeals on the same case. It"s a waste of time and resources to keep reviewing a case in different courts. We can be pretty certain that the person accused is the person who committed the crime. Police officers and prosecutors are a biased part of the system. Most of the crime control model relies on the opinions of these key players. The judge is the neutral participant in the system: severity of punishment: in order to teach criminals, harsh punishment must be imposed. The hope is that if severe punishments are put into place, they will deter people from committing crime.
