Attention and joint reference in communication development. Achievements in language form-that come with literate language. 90% of all syntax is mastered at about 5 years old. Average sentence length of 7 words +/-2. Adverbs - info about time, manner, intensity. We are hardwired to tell stories as humans. Increasing length and complexity in written language. Inside the blinds were drawn but the furniture was real. Written style quite different than conversation, especially in academic writing. Texting, creative writing, research papers, etc all different. Learning to read vs reading to learn- 4th grade. More sentences/a greater percentage of complex sentences. Vocabulary development is a life long process, new words learned from text, not talk. The measurable effect that a gap grows wider and wider. Gap in vocabulary development increases with ages. Vocabulary growth accelerates, but when they are not learning new words through meaning, they have a larger gap.
