Document Summary

Clinical disorders inform the mechanism behind various functions of the brain. When certain parts of the brain are damaged, certain components of functions are disrupted or lost. Which functions are lost and how based on the brain regions that are damaged shows how the damaged parts of the brain contribute those functions. There is a pathway extending from the eyes into the brain. Different parts of the visual system that precede the occipital lobe in the path from the eyes into the brain can be damaged to produce different types of blindness to everything in certain regions of the visual field. We will focus instead on types of blindness at and downstream of the occipital lobe (i. e later in the pathway an image takes in being processed) (cid:862) i(cid:373)ple(cid:863) (cid:862)physical(cid:863) bli(cid:374)d(cid:374)ess co(cid:374)t.
