If you later discover that this species is hermaphroditic, you should expect that they are probable protogynous slides. Other reproductive traits that vary with life history patterns. Most species are gonochoristic (single sex, fixed at maturity) May be genetic or environmentally determined (implications for global warming?) For sea turtles: cool temps during incubation = male; warm temps during incubation = female. Production of gametes leads to asexual production during stable environments. Simultaneous - function as male and female at same time. Sequential - start life as one sex, change sex after maturity. Probably because of high cost to females of producing young. Monogamous - mating pair remains together over time. Every monogamous system studied shows at least some cheating.
