Document Summary

Genetic disease that causes a thick, mucus-like substance to build up in the lungs, throat, and pancreas. 1 million people in america are carriers. Genotype is determined by the sequence of bases in its dna. Phenotype is a product of the proteins it produces. Redundant: all but 2 amino acids are encoded by more than one codon. Non-overlapping: codons are read one at a time. Nearly universal: all codons specify the same amino acids in all organisms (with a few minor exceptions) Conservative: if several codons specify the same amino acid, the first two bases are usually identical. The ribosome is a molecular machine that synthesizes proteins. Reads off the triplet codon on the mrna. Requires a trna carrying the correct anticodon. A peptide bond forms with each aa based off the codon sequence. It is going to pair up with mrna to produce polypeptides. Missense: changes an amino acid in the protein.
