Smart pa goals: why create goals, they are an essential part of the planning process that starts with clearly defining a desired outcome, goals can- Promote accountability: process vs outcome oriented goals, process- Focus on behavioral changes that will lead to the desired outcome: ex: jogging for 30 min 3 times a week, focus more on changing the behaviors that lead to a desired outcome by a specific date, outcome- Focus on the outcome that results from the progressive changes in behavior: ex: weight loss. Focus on the change or effect that a person ultimately desired by a specified date: long and short term goals, long- term. More then 6 months into the future: ex: run a marathon, lose 20 lbs, short term. Should focus on the behavior that needs to progressively change over time: recommended that short term goals be process oriented. Short term goals can be assessed daily, weekly monthly or more.
