Hurricane season: during early summer through fall, june-october in northern hemisphere. Hurricanes are destructive because of intensive rain fall, high wind speeds, large waves in the open ocean, storm surge approaching the coast. 90% of hurricane deaths caused by storm surge. Highest wind speeds in hurricane is in the eyewall. Eye of hurricane: fair weather and lowest air pressure. High rel. humidity doesn"t contribute to a hurricane surge. Highest occurrence of hurricanes is in west pacific. More hurricanes occur in the east pacific than atlantic. Most deadly hurricane was in indian ocean.
