Document Summary

High heritability -> has one of the highest genetic heritabilities! Persists into adulthood for 60% (it"s actually equal rate in females because it shows differently!!! Males go crazy, girls stare blankly out of the window) Impact : pretty much everything bad increases if untreated. Symptoms of adhd evolve over time and age, can cause other problems like antisocial behavior and school exclusion, conduct disorder, substance abuse. Prevalence : 16% in population, 8% of population treated, 72% on definite stimulant medication. Comorbities with odd, tics, anxiety/mood, and conduct disorders. Reduction in glucose metabolism in the premotor cortex and the superior prefrontal cortex. Reduction of acc ( anterior singulate cortex), activation of frontontal-triatal-insular pathway. Lack of axon pruning during development ( use it or lose it doesn"t happen like it should with the adhd kids) maturation of the cortex is delayed by like 4 to 5 years.
