Document Summary

Io psychologists engage in research to: better equip hr professionals in making decisions in organizations. People today need to be able to interpret data: provide an aspect of predictability to hr decisions. Common research designs in io psych: experimental- random assignment of participants to conditions. Can be in lab or in field/workplace. Random assignment- all participants have an equal chance of being in either group. But- does not create perfectly equal groups because it is random. Differences between groups may still occur by chance: quasi-experimental- nonrandom assignment of participants to conditions. Used when random assignment cannot or should not be done. Matched control study- get people who have been exposed, then selected people who are similar to each of those patients. Ex) head start program- academic program for students. Participants gathered via self-selection, but study can still be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
