Document Summary
Find neuron in fef that corresponds to certain eye movement. Have monkey use covert attention to prepare to do that eye movement. Then micro-stimulate that neuron (not enough for the movement to actually occur). This will improve the monkeys spatial attention (can find target when lights are dimmer: externally-driven (exogenous, top down attention (endogenous, use plan or rule to direct attention. If told to attend to left side, then there will be a larger p1 component in the right occipital lobe. Shows that attention made those neurons ready to fire: the right occipital is the site of attention, source of attention, this comes from the frontal cortex, based on the top down rules. "ventral attention network: activated by exogenous stimuli, damage to fef and superior parietal cortex do not produce neglect, those areas are important for attention/top down processing. Ignores one side: the neglected item is still processed in their brain, but they don"t remember it.
