Basic main function of areas and names of areas i mention today. Central nervous system: spinal cord & brain. For both directions axons travel through spinal cord. Regulates functions of internal organs (hearts, intestines, smooth muscle) Increases heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate. Parasympathetic: conserves energy ( rest and digest , homeostasis) Decreases heart rate, bp and breathing rate. Vagus nerve originates in medulla heart, digestive system, lungs. Blood pressure needed to get blood which carries glucose and oxygen to brain for brain needs good level of blood pressure because of gravity need to get blood pressure to brain. Blood pressure drops quickly pass out/faint. Dorsal: towards the top of the brain. If dog there would be no distinction. In humans with 90 degree turn gets into spinal cord front is ventral and back is dorsal. Lateral: towards the outside of the brain. 3 planes that we can look at. Slice of brain across from front to back.
