• Self-monitoring – ability to regulate behavior to accommodate social situations
o High self-monitoring = behave in a manner that is highly responsive to
social cues/ situational context

• Choose jobs that best fit themselves
• Form meaningful relationships
• More satisfied with life
Disadvantage:
• Wind up in relationships and jobs that
do’t suit the
• More likely to be divorced/ married

• More introverted
• Hard time fitting in social situations
o Not as socially adept/ popular
o Makes them feel insecure
• Why do we feel our impression management strategies work?
