Huge role in developing gunpowder warfare; most enduring imperial power in world history; most multicultural empire in human history; expansionist and militaristic. Recruited soldiers from christian population and trained and forcefully converted to islam. Constantinople 1453- ottomans conquer and convert church into mosque. Siege of vienna 1529- ottomans almost won but then didn"t. Ultimately failed bc cannons couldn"t destroy vienna walls.
