America as country of immigrants but this is more complex than it might seem. 1790 naturalization act: only citizens are white men. 1798 executive power to deport citizens considered dangerous. Page act 1875: first federal act limiting immigrations of people considered. Calling them alien" takes away their humanity, their sense of being a person. The jews (turning jews away in wwii) Forced (by extraordinary violence) migrations: native americans and africans. Travel has always meant something different in the black community than it has in the white because black migrations and even everyday modes of transportation have typically been accompanied by acts of white terrorism (spigel 62). For the wealthier, there are no borders. They are tourists, choosing to travel and control their own mobility--it is an adventure, exciting.
