SOC 152A Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Married People, Softcore Pornography, Casual Sex
Document Summary
There was a peak in nonmarital sex in 1990. The number of sexual partners per generation is decreasing. The number of high school students that have had pv sex is also decreasing. Studies show that sexual conservatism is increasing and those who are sexually active are becoming numbered. Men are more likely than women to approve of casual sex with minimal commitment. Females are more likely to seek sex in the context of love or a close relationship. Many people still hunger today for romance, regardless of gender. People feel more pleasure with the first sex in a serious relationship than a casual relationship. Being in a serious relationship brings a greater amount of pleasure to people. Most people say that romance disappears too soon in their relationships. Males are more likely than females to say they have romance with a partner (counterintuitive) This is because females have more idealized definitions of romanced and are more likely to feel disappointed.
