Document Summary
The united states hasn"t been out of war in a long time. Been in afghanistan since 2001 - the longest war the united states has been in. Even though the us is largely involved in war, people in society act like it"s not going on and nothing is wrong because it"s not a large topic in the news. We have a volunteer army we have the choice to go to war or not it doesn"t impact us as individuals of how important war is. More important, deeper reason: we take militarism as granted in society. First to acknowledge that us is spending too much money on the war. Independent military authority, a threat to democracy (abuse of power) Eisenhower is unable to control his own cabinet because the military was becoming too powerful. Permanent war economy creates a dependence on war as our way of life.
