Half of all perpetrators of murder were drinking alcohol. 20-30 percent hospital admissions due to complicaions from alcohol. Last month about 129 americans had at least one drink. Oldest known and most widely used psychoacive drug. People were drawn to it for the mental/emoional efects. Thirsty farmers discovered that grapes, as well as the starch in potatoes, rice, corn, fruit, and grains could be fermented into alcohol. Widely used as: reward, food, cure-all, sacrament, subsitute for water, social lubricant, tranquilizer, source of revenue from taxes. Almost every country has had periods in history where alcohol was prohibited or regulated.
