Document Summary

Has to be caused by something, you don"t just laugh at nothing. Directed at an object meeting criteria for "amusement" Yellow bile --> choleric (irritable, makes you angry) Blood sanguis --> sanguine (if you are very sure of yourself or positive) Comedy is a mixture of pleasure and pain, we experience upon witnessing the vise of self-delusion. Laughing at people who thought they were better than they really were. Comedy is an imitation of people who are worse than the average. Comedy as a genre exposes human weakness to laughter. "the comedic mask is unseemly distorted, but does not cause pain" "we rejoice in the failure of our competitors" "sudden glory, is the passion that makes those grimaces called laughter" Caused either by some sudden act of their own that pleases them, or by the apprehension of some deformed thing in another by comparison whereof they suddenly applaud themselves. We laugh when we suddenly realize we are better than someone.
