Historical product - relationship to people and the power of the state. Unity that exists in the community with relation to those in higher power. Community is not an essential content, but it is always formed in relationship to other communities and people. Ecology/ livelihoods from case studies - people organize themselves with environment. Segmentation: based on kinship - family relationships. Leave, then come back together again to participate in a tribal group. Men in the family go out as a group for vengeance. Households may split up into segments, but when they get back together, they live together. They are our enemies; we marry them". Reach outside of kinship and create a long term relationship with the other group. The brothers and brother-in-laws form a group of vengeance.
