SLHS 1150 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Vocal Fold Paresis, Vocal Folds, List Of Voice Disorders
Document Summary
Pitch, loudness, or quality of the voice may be abnormal. Difficulty in producing voice because of laryngeal issues. Voice that is disordered in some way. Loss of the ability to phonate because of damage to the larynx or mouth. Air is sent from the lungs, through the trachea and into the larynx. Basic rate of vibration of the vocal folds. Relates to 2 different features of vocal production. Amount of resistance to airflow by the vocal folds. How far apart the vocal folds move and come. Quality (the unique characteristics of voice) back together. How well the 2 vocal folds work together. If vocal folds are working normally, voice is pleasant and clear. If compromised in some way, you will get a different quality. Vocal folds are under-functioning and have inadequate tension, air escapes. Breathing or hoarseness, or no voice at all. Vocal folds are overly tense and compress too tightly together. Too loud, too high, and/or too strained, sometimes.
