No necessary or absolute connection between symbols and the things they represent. No connection with symbol of apple and the word apple . Have to know what the word means to know its an apple. Classification of language disorders focus on 3 features. Language difficulties in the absence of any other disability that can be held accountable. Language difficulties that are a consequence of another disorder, intellectual disability, brain injury, ect. Disorder that is acquired sometimes after birth. Relatively little impact on a child"s ability to function at home or school.
