Entering college, taking on first job, getting married, etc: catastrophic events. Noxious environment (live near an airport runway) Asked people to compare different life events to getting married. Assume stress level for getting married is similar for everyone, set it at 50. Ask people what happened over the year, add up the lcu of events during the year. You can measure how stressed someone is based on this. Higher srrs scores associated with negative outcomes.
