Document Summary

Eyewitness testimony can be wrong because of false memories . Sensation: basic, primitive mental state corresponding to energies in environment. Experience of world. (we receive information from the world) (color waves, light particles) Perception: mental state corresponding to properties of objects and events in environment. Knowledge of world. (using your senses to interpret the world) (seeing a blue shirt, knowing it"s sunny out because you see the sun) Quality of sensation (visual, auditory, touch etc. ) depends on which nerve fibers are stimulated and not the stimulus itself (muller). Fibers of optic nerve are normally stimulated by light. Can also be stimulated by pressure, electric current etc. Any stimulation given will yield experience of light. Any sensory experience must have corresponding set of nerve fibers. (brightness, color, loudness) a type of neural activity at work. The electromagnetic spectrum is from shortest wavelength to longest. Consists of gamma rays, x-rays, ultraviolet (uv), color, infrared, microwaves, radar, fm,tv, am.
