If you lack lactase enzyme, you are lactose intolerant because the lactose molecule will just flow through the g. i tract : Water rushes into the g. i instead of out. Lactose provides food source for bacteria, that consumes it and produces gas -> flatulence. Simple sugar and oh moleculue -> sugar alcohol (small monosaccharide) : sufar free chewing gum has sorbitol which is a sugar alcohol. Bacteria can"t eat sugar alcohols: sugar free gum won"t be a food source for mouth bacteria-> reduce the risk of cavities. Amylopectin: branched chain of a whole bunch of glucose. Starch granule has its amylose in ordered in a linear fshion. Amylose tangled with other amylose moleculues -> water squeezed out -> thickening. Glycogen: storage form of glucose or sugar or animals. Pectin: complex polysaccharide and is very abundant in the skin of apples and cucumbers:
