In order to accomplish all of these tasks, strategies and rules are developed. The interdependent cluster of strategies influence one another and help us to observe family functioning and interaction. Systems view requires understanding of interdependence of 1) composition 2) tasks and 3) strategies. Strategies and rules form patterns and dynamics that are unique to each family. Strategies of family are influenced by social, economic, educational, and political systems as well as historical context. Family origin experiences /family legacy influences strategy development. Societal, cultural, and historical norms also shape strategies. Family identity task: provide family members and family unit with a definition of self and framework of meaning. Family"s shared identity as well as each member"s personal identity. Themes can be adopted from generations, culture, ethnicity, religion, origin experiences. Themes serve identity function by showing members how they are supposed to behave in a variety of situations.
