Document Summary
Begin to understand that our biological sense is permanent. Understand how we"re supposed to act as boys and girls, what is expected of as boys and girls. What are your beliefs/actions, more masculine, feminine, androgynous. Femininity: open to emotions, helpful, sensitive, warm. Androgyny-see situational advantages in both genders: high in masculinity and femininity. Note: tendency is for males to be masculine and females to be feminine (cultural value but not cultural mandate) but. Males can have a feminine gender orientation. Advantage to being androgynous-can match behavior to situation. In spite of years and years of trying to find a biological basis for gender orientations the conclusion remains, the differences between males and females are due to social not biological factors. Overview of social learning theory-social approval and social disapproval. All learning theories organized around the concept of reinforcement. Reinforce behavior with negative reinforcement- behavior is not learned. Reinforcement tells us what we"re expected to do.
