General discourse on parenting strategies that discriminate against the health and welfare of children: physical realm, cognitive/intellectual realm, social realm, emotional realm, moral realm, psychological realm. Judgments of abuse and values: when we say parents are abusing a child we mean parents are using rules of development that we disagree with or find wrong. Someone may say that hitting is wrong no matter what while others may say that it is okay to smack them sometimes. Intersubjectivity establishes the cultural norms at any given point in time! : we arrive at a general consensus among the majority of people about what we think abuse is. Incidences: everything we know about incidences are guesses just because families are hidden so abuse is hidden, we do not know of every case. What we know: average 5 kids killed/day by parental figures. What we guess: more than 3 million kids abused or neglected each year.
