Document Summary
What are three of the key issues surrounding u. s. immigration policy? (see chapter 3) One key issue surrounding u. s. immigration policy is how many legal immigrants should be allowed to come into the country. There are 43. 3 million people who are foreign-born living in the united stated. 13. 1 million of these people are legal immigrants and 11. 1 million are illegal migrants. The key arguments for this topic are that by letting too many immigrants into the country many american jobs will be taken. On the contrary, it can also be looked at that by letting in more immigrants, businesses and the economy can boost and prosper. A second key issue is cracking down on the daily flow of undocumented immigrants entering the united states, specifically along the u. s. -mexican border. While in 2006 there were only 12,349 employees. This number has increased drastically in an effort to keep immigrants from entering the country illegally.
